DRAVYA.
*DEFINITIONS:-
1) According to Charak, dravya is the substratum of quality and action which reside in the dravya inherently (quality and action cannotbe separated from dravya).
2) Sushruta further clarified that dravya is aushadhi (medicine).
3) According to P.V.Sharma; that which is substratum of qualities and actions and is the material cause (of its effect) is defined as ‘dravya’.
4) According to Rasavaisheshika; dravya is an abode of five elements.
5) While Bhava Mishra clearly explains that the dravya is substratum of Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, Prabhava altogether.
6) A drug is defined as a substance which will posses properties (guna) and action together with an inherent relation.
7) Badhanta Nagarjuna defined dravya as the site of operational activities of rasa, guna, virya, vipaka and karma.
