Satkaryavada.

SATKARYAVADA.
The basic question involved in any theory of causation is that the effect pre-exists in its material cause. Those who answer this question in the negative are called ‘asatkaryadis’,while those who answer in the affirmative are called ‘satkaryadis’.
Definition of sat-The cause that exists even after its transformation into karya;i.e;effect.Generally we belive that the cause is extinguished before or on its transformation into effect. For ex:-A child on observing his father selling his lorry full of load of groundnuts receiving a small bit of paper (cheque of Rs.50,000) feels that his father is an unintelligent person for he has lost a huge quantity of groundnuts and got only a small bit of paper. Here the cause isnot alike the effect.
Satkaryavada profounded by Kapil Maharshi of Sankhya philosophy followed by Charak and Shushruta. All material effects are the modification of prakruti. They pre-exist in the eternal bosom of prakruti and simply come out of it at the time of creation and return to it at the time of dissolution. There is neither newproduction nor utter destruction.Production means development and manifestation. Destruction means envelopment or dissolution.
Satkaryavada is supported and established on the following grounds:-(1)Asatkarna:-‘Asat’ means abhava or nil or non-existence.
(2)Akarnad:-This means however great a person maybe he can never produce substance from non-existent.Ex:-We can obtain oil from sesame seeds and not from sand particles.
(3)Upadan grahanat:-Everything cannotbe produced out of everything. We cannot prepare a golden chain from copper. We cannot expect to neem tree to sprout out from tomato seeds. Thus, satkaryavada states that all the contents of this diversified and expanded universe are potentially present in ‘avyakta’ form.
